Economic Development

The Village of Burns Lake’s Economic Development department works with local and regional partners to diversify, strengthen and support the local economy. The economic and community development projects that are implemented are key factors in the excellent quality of life experienced in the Lakes District.

Economic Development Strategy

The Lakes District Economic Diversification and Community Development Plan was adopted by Council in 2019. The plan will guide economic development resources over the next few weeks. A focus of the plan is to attract residents, entrepreneurs and business owners to the area.

The first project completed from the Action List was the construction of an Off-lease Dog Park. Community volunteers spearheaded this project and with funding from several organizations the park was completed in 2019. The park is perfectly located and is attracting traveller’s to stop in Burns Lake to give their pets a run and many are deciding to stay just down the street in the FREE municipal campground.

With tourism playing an increasing important economic role for the area. The department will focus on tourism supports in the coming year as the department is moving to the Visitor Information Centre located near the Lakes District Museum.
