Regarding: The New Burns Lake Firehall
In 2017 a formal review of the Village of Burns Lake’s fire protection facilities concluded that even with renovations, the existing Firehall was not sufficient to support the needs of the community and recommended that a larger and more efficiently designed facility was necessary.
In 2023, the construction process began, and the Village of Burns Lake is pleased to announce the completion of the new Burns Lake Fire Rescue Facility.
The new facility is significantly larger to allow for four apparatus bays, increased storage for equipment, and an improved training and locker area. There is also improved parking for responding members, an administration office area, and decontamination rooms for post-incident cleanup.
The members of Burns Lake Fire Rescue, a predominantly volunteer organization, responded to 168 calls between January and September of 2024. This included twenty-one fires, seven structure fires and twenty-five motor vehicle incidents. This new fire rescue facility is intended to ensure that the department has the necessary space and resources to continue providing exceptional levels of service.
The Village of Burns Lake would like to acknowledge the $3.15 million contributed by the Government through the Canada Community Building Fund.
“The federal government is proud to have contributed to the new Firehall in Burns Lake,” said the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. “With its increased capacity, it will help protect the community and its residents for many years to come.”
This important grant contribution and a funding contribution from the Village of Burns Lake’s capital reserves allowed the construction of this much-needed facility.
